  • Recognized throughout the injection-molded optics community
  • Developed concepts for a unique head-mounted display, upon which the Optimize, Inc. business plans were based
  • Clients included Sega, Adaptec, KeyTronic, Digital Equipment, Chase Manhattan, Univ of Wisconsin, Metrika, Cepheid, Soane, and dozens of others

  • Member of founding executive team
  • Developed and manufactured stereo microscope (SAM II) for microwave IC alignment (Licensed technology to Giga, France)
  • Developed laser barcode scanning technology for beverage bottle and can recycling
  • Developed and manufactured omnidirectional tabletop barcode scanners (OmniScan) for point-of-sale markets. Innovative designs were first to incorporate all-plastic optics, visible laser diodes and digital signal processing technologies
  • Corporate partnered with Sensormatic and DataLogic SpA for investment and domestic and international marketing leverage.
  • OEM agreements with ICL DataChecker and Toyota Tsusho Denso.
  • Scanner designs in continuous production at DataLogic until 1996

  • A developmental stage company manufacturing continuous-loop, low-cost magnetic tape data cartridges
  • Contracted as a consultant to develop and supply production vision systems; hired as interim Vice President to implement redesign. Managed and expanded engineering staff

  • Electro-optical consultation and system fabrication, specializing in microscopic vision systems
  • Developed split-field magnetic read/write head alignment techniques
  • Fabricated production head alignment systems for Shugart, Seagate, and others

Manager, Scanning Systems Development


  • Responsible for management and design of early point-of-sale barcode scanner developments under contract to NCR Corporation
  • Managed 25-member engineering staff
  • Developed scanning pattern and patented electronic processing technique, both widely emulated throughout the industry
  • Brought difficult optical concepts to production using innovative and pioneering molded plastic optics techniques

Bendix Corp., Research Laboratories – Southfield, MI (Acquired by Allied Signal)

Senior Engineer 


  • Corporate labs; birthplace of many operating divisions; strongly disciplined broad-based training ground
  • Developed video, CRT deflection and servo circuitry for Air Force photogrammetric systems
  • Responsible for video processing subsystem for first Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS) ground data processing station
  • Developed patented laser scanning technology for lumber flaw detection used at American Forrest Products mills
  • Participated in Bendix proposal effort for NCR barcode scanner RFQ
